Updated list of approved insurance providers for Barbadian vessels

The Barbados Maritime Ship Registry has revised bulletin No. 013 with the list of Approved Providers of Insurance.

The bulletin was revised on 30 September 2024.

Purpose: The bulletin provides a list of approved insurance providers for Barbadian vessels to ensure compliance with various maritime conventions and regulations.

Key Conventions & Regulations:

• P&I Certificate of Entry for general liability.
• Insurance for ships over 1000 Gross Tonnage under the 2001 Bunkers Convention.
• Insurance for ships carrying over 2000 tons of oil in bulk under the 1992 Civil Liability Convention.
• Insurance covering all seafarers for repatriation and shipowner’s liability under the MLC 2006.
• Requirements for ships on international voyages per the PAL 2002.
• Coverage for ships over 300 Gross Tonnage under the 2007 Nairobi WRC.

Barbados Maritime Ship Registry (BMSR): Not a signatory to the 2007 Nairobi WRC, but requires valid insurance for compliance.

Approval Process: Insurance providers must submit various documents to be approved by the BMSR before their certificates are accepted.
