UK Maritime and Coastguard Agency has updated its Seafarers medical certification guidance: How to get an ENG1 or ML5 medical certificate.
The guide was updated on 07 February 2023.
This guide tells you which of the two medical certificates you need (ENG1 or ML5), how to get it, and where to find a doctor to carry out a medical fitness examination. It also tells you what to do if you fail, and want to get your result reviewed.
The guide is updated for when an ML5 medical report and certificate is required; one new bullet point is added:
working on a fishing vessel under 24m in length that is not subject to inspection in a foreign port, at sea for more than 72 hours or operating more than 200 miles from the coastline of the UK or beyond the continental shelf.
