UK issues notices amending Maritime labour convention 2006
The UK Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) has issued notices with amendments to the Maritime labour convention 2006. The notices were published on October 4th, 2022.
MGN 479 (M) Amendment 1 gives information on the circumstances in which shipowners are required to repatriate seafarers under the merchant shipping regulations, and the provision that must be made, including the seafarer’s relief and maintenance while waiting and during repatriation. This amendment also refers to the guidance in MGN 477 Amendment 4 on the maximum period of sea service, and it includes additional guidance on the costs of quarantine and other minor editorial changes for clarification.
MSN 1877 (M) Amendment 2 details mandatory requirements specified by the Secretary of State under the merchant shipping regulations, and it gives guidance on the application of the regulations. There are four annexes attached to this notice: Annex A - model format for table of shipboard working arrangements, Annex B - table template to record hours and rest, Annex C -information on ships detained in port under regulation 21 of MLC hours or work regulations 2018, and Annex D - Details of offences.
