UAE updates list of restricted flag states for vessel classification compliance

The UAE Federal Maritime Administration (FMA) represented by the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure has updated its list of flag states whose vessels are required to be classified by a member of the International Association of Classification Societies (IACS) or the Emirates Classification Society - Tasneef.

The latest update adds Eswatini (Swaziland) to the list. Ports, ship owners, managers, operators, agents, and classification societies in the UAE must ensure that vessels from these flag states are properly classified. The updated list includes:

  1. Albania
  2. Belize
  3. North Korea
  4. Sao Tome and Principe
  5. Tonga
  6. Republic of Congo
  7. Equatorial Guinea
  8. Tanzania
  9. Cameroon
  10. Eswatini (Swaziland)

Non-compliant vessels are not to be serviced to avoid legal consequences.
