Before the 1st January 2024, with completed 150 dynamic positioning (DP) sea time days done within a period of 5 years was enough to re-validate DP certificate but not anymore. From January 2024 to ensure DP operators meet the new standards in a fast-changing industry, DP operators (DPO), DP Vessel Maintainers (DPVM) renewing their certifications will now be asked to demonstrate continuing professional development (CPD) as well as experience.
- If somebody who has collected 150 DP days does not want to pass the CPD theoretical learning modules then DPO/DPVM can choose the Nautical Institute (NI) DP Refresher and Competency Assessment Course. In either case, theoretical online exam must be given at the end which consist of 30 questions and shall be completed in one hour with a pass mark of 70%. Currently can be found 7 accredited CPD suppliers on the NI Alexis platform.
- In case less than 150 DP days have been collected, but at least 30 in the last five years, then course NI DP Refresher and Competency Assessment Course is mandatory. The course lasts 5 days and consists of both the practical and the theoretical part. The assessment for the DP Refresher and Competency Assessment Course includes a theoretical (NI online) exam and a practical assessment.
- However, if less than 30 days have been collected, it is mandatory to complete the NI DP Revalidation Course. Similar to NI DP Refresher and Competency Assessment Course it lasts 5 days and consists of both the practical and the theoretical part. The assessment for the Revalidation Course includes a theoretical (NI online) exam and a practical assessment.
