Lloyd's Register has published the Summary Report for the IMO Marine Environment Protection Committee (MEPC 80).
MEPC 80 was held from 3 - 7 July 2023.
Reducing shipping's impact on the environment is at the core of the IMO's Marine Environmental Protection Committee. MEPC oversees the work of several sub-committees and influences cross cutting subjects, with impacts on key IMO regulations.
LR's Summary Report provides information on the discussions that took place at MEPC 80 including:
- The adoption of the IMO’s 2023 GHG Strategy.
- The adoption of the guidelines on Life Cycle GHG Intensity of Marine Fuels (LCA Guidelines).
- The review of short-term GHG reduction measures.
- The development of mid-term GHG reduction measures.
- Amendment to the Ballast Water Management Convention on the form of the Ballast Water Record Book.
- 2023 Guidelines for the control and management of ships' biofouling to minimize the transfer of invasive aquatic species.
