Suez Canal Authority has issued a navigation circular intended for vessels waiting for more than 48 hours

The Suez Canal Authority (SCA) has issued a navigation circular intended for vessels waiting for more than 48 hours.

For vessels that remain in the SCA waiting areas (Port Said) for more than 48 hours, the charges for stay and berthing are administered based on the following criteria:

• Charges are incurred by vessels in the SCA waiting areas engaged in activities such as crew changes, anchor issues, shipping, mechanical malfunctions, etc.
• Charges are assessed after a 48-hour period (two days) of being berthed in the waiting areas, starting from their arrival at the designated zone.
• A fee of 30 cents per ton of gross tonnage is paid for each day, commencing from the vessel's arrival at the waiting area.
• Additionally:a. Any portion of a ton is treated as a whole ton.b. Any portion of a day is considered a full day.

The following are exceptions to the aforementioned charges:

• Companies holding licenses for bunkering in Port Said and Suez.
• Vessels undergoing repairs or maintenance at Suez Canal shipyards or affiliated companies under the Suez Canal Authority.

The procedures, terms, and conditions governing the collection of mooring and berthing fees are fully applicable.

This circular came into effect on August 1, 2023.
