Suez Canal: a circular regarding vessels carrying floating units on deck

The Suez Canal Authority (SCA) has published a navigation circular regarding vessels transiting the Canal and carrying floating units on deck.

Modification to Para (D) in Appendix No.1, page 70 of the Suez Canal Navigation Regulations - December 2020 release, pertaining to ships navigating the Suez Canal while carrying floating structures on their decks is articulated in a subsequent manner:

The "Suez Canal Gross Tonnage (SCGT)" of floating structures conveyed on a vessel's deck while traversing the Suez Canal is determined based on the dimensions for stowage as indicated in official records: [Maximum Length x Maximum Breadth x Maximum Height (excluding any masts)]

Vessels will be liable for the following supplementary fees:

  • a. 100% of the transit dues calculated from the SCGT of the floating structures.

- b. 2% of the transit dues for each foot or fractional foot exceeding the maximum breadth defined by Article 26.

This circular was released on 25 June 2023 and became effective on 1 July 2023.
