St. Vincent and the Grenadines has issued a circular regarding the IP Code, effective 1 July 2024
Saint Vincent and the Grenadines Maritime Administration has issued a circular regarding the International Code of Safety for Ships Carrying Industrial Personnel (IP Code).
This circular was issued on 18 September 2023 and will become effective on 1 July 2024.
Starting July 1, 2024, the International Code of Safety for Ships Carrying Industrial Personnel (IP Code) becomes mandatory for cargo ships and high-speed cargo craft with 500+ gross tonnage and more than 12 industrial personnel on international voyages.
Here's how SOLAS Chapter XV applies:
- New cargo ships and high-speed cargo craft built after July 1, 2024, must meet IP Code requirements at their first survey.
- Existing ships fall into two categories: those authorized to carry >12 industrial personnel per Resolution MSC.418(97) and those not authorized.
For B1 ships:
- Cargo ships comply at the first survey after July 1, 2024.
- High-speed cargo craft comply at the third survey after July 1, 2024.
For B2 ships:
All ships must comply with SOLAS Chapter XV and the IP Code before carrying >12 industrial personnel.
Seek authorization via Recognized Organizations (RO).
The RO will issue a Statement of Compliance following Resolution MSC.418(97).
