Shanghai implements controls for ship machinery failures

The Republic of the Marshall Islands Maritime Administrator has issued a Marine Safety Advisory No. 15-22 regarding ship machinery failure in the Shanghai Port in China.

The Shanghai Maritime Safety Administration has implemented new controls to address machinery failures on ships calling at the port.

These controls require the implementation of safety management procedures and the testing of main and auxiliary machinery before arrival at Shanghai Port.

Ships registered under the Republic of the Marshall Islands flag are subject to these local requirements, which came into effect on July 1, 2022.

If a ship experiences two or more machinery failures within 12 months in Shanghai waters, it will be considered high risk and may face additional measures such as detention, suspension, or removal from the port.

This MSA is evaluated annually by the Administrator and expires one year after its issuance or renewal unless otherwise noted,
