RMRS amends its rules for sea-going ships, pleasure crafts and offshore platforms
Russian Maritime Register of Shipping (RMRS) has issued three circular letters regarding amendments to the Rules for the Classification and Construction of Sea-Going Ships, the Rules for the Classification and Construction of Pleasure Craft and the Rules for the Classification, Construction and Equipment of Mobile Offshore Drilling Units and Fixed Offshore Platforms.
Sea-going ships
The amendments to the Rules for the Classification and Construction of Sea-Going Ships incorporate part XVII. of the Rules, changing Paragraphs 13.2.1.3 and 13.2.4.1. Additional requirements for ships of special types are now more specified.
Ships carrying equipment for fire fighting aboard other ships are assigned one of the following distinguishing marks: FF1, FF2, FF3, FF1WS, FF2WS, FF3WS.
Also, standby ships and salvage vessels taking into account their purpose and particulars of their structure shall be provided with additional life-saving appliances.
Pleasure crafts
The changes of the Rules for the Classification and Construction of Pleasure Craft are introduced in parts V (Machinery installations, machinery, systems and piping) and X (Fire protection).
New Paragraph 2.14.3 of part V prohibits any use of asbestos-containing materials, while Paragraphs 2.3.10 and 2.3.11 are changed, stating the rules for insulation materials, vapour barriers and adhesives, and the exceptions.
Offshore drilling units and fixed platforms
The amendment to the Rules for the Classification, Construction and Equipment of Mobile Offshore Drilling Units and Fixed Offshore Platforms refer to the part VIII, Systems and piping.
New Paragraph 1.4.2 is introduced and it presents that in the pipes of water fire extinguishing systems having no other purpose than fire extinguishing permissible water speed is up to 6 m/s.
All the amendments enter into force on December 1st, 2022.
