Classification Society RINA has amended its Guide for the Evaluation of Energy Efficiency Existing Ship Index (EEXI).
The updated Guide for the Evaluation of Energy Efficiency Existing Ship Index (EEXI), effective from November 1, 2024, provides a standardized approach for meeting MARPOL Annex VI energy efficiency requirements for both new and existing ships. Major amendments include:
Scope and Purpose: It aids RINA technicians and shipowners in complying with updated IMO energy efficiency mandates, except when directed otherwise by a ship’s Flag Administration.
Key Revisions:
- Updates reflect IMO’s MEPC resolutions and IACS recommendations, specifically MEPC.375(80) and MEPC.390(81), enhancing clarity on power limitation systems and power reserve use.
- Refinements in areas like EEXI evaluation formulas, reduction factors, and specific energy metrics (e.g., PME, PAE, Vref).
- New references to in-service performance measurements for accuracy in Required and Attained EEXI calculations.
Approval and Compliance:
- Revised procedures for approving EEXI Technical Files and On-Board Management Manuals (OMM) are outlined to ensure compliance with power limitations and NOx emission controls.
