Classification Society RINA has amended the Rules for Testing and Certification of Marine Materials and Equipment. Amended chapters include Chapter 2 Certification Schemes, Chapter 3 Type Approval, Chapter 6 Requirements for Inspection and Testing of Products at Workshops, and Chapter 7 Requirements for Inspection and Testing of Products at Shipyards, while Chapter 8 General Index was deleted.
Amendments to Marine Materials and Equipment
Requirements for several products were specified, such as equipment to reduce on-board emissions, materials other than steel for pipes conveying oil or fuel oil and devices to prevent the passage of flame into the cargo tanks in oil tankers, inter alia.
Furthermore, multiple new products were added to the Rules that, among others, include: Bow chain stopper for SPM ships, gear for operating watertight doors replacing hand operated sliding doors with an all round crank motion, watertight cable transits, chocking resins, emergency release coupling (ERC), flooding detection system, quick connect disconnect coupler (QCDC) and more.
The amendments became effective from 01 June 2022.
