Classification society RINA has issued Amendments to Part E of “Rules for Classification of Ships” (REP.5): modifications to the requirements for external glass balustrades on passenger ships.
The amendments entered into force on October 1st, 2022.
The amending document, regarding external glass balustrades, changes how the glass pane thickness, the top rail minimum section modulus, and the glass supporting structures should be calculated.
Additionally, it specifies that some of the balustrade minimum requirements are intended for grade A steel.
The drop height for the external glass balustrades impact test is changed as well.
