Revised guidance for gas trials on LNG carriers released by SIGTTO

The Society of International Gas Tanker and Terminal Operators (SIGTTO) has published the updated guidance for gas trials on LNG carriers.

Introduction

A gas trial is performed on newly constructed gas carriers to ensure the proper functioning of their cargo systems. The shipbuilder typically prepares a detailed gas trial plan to manage this process.

The recently released document provides safety recommendations for planning gas trials and offers guidance on reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.

This updated version supersedes the previous edition, titled "Guide for Planning Gas Trials for LNG Vessels" (2008).

Scope

This document presents key safety and environmental considerations to be taken into account during the execution of a gas trial.

It is intended exclusively for LNG carriers (LNGCs), while specialized vessels like floating storage and regasification units (FSRUs) may require additional assessments.

While the document focuses on LNG gas trials, it may also provide useful insights for other types of gas carriers.
