ReCAAP ISC revises the Regional Guide to Counter Piracy and Armed Robbery against Ships in Asia
The Regional Cooperation Agreement on Combating Piracy and Armed Robbery against Ships in Asia (ReCAAP) has issued a new version of the guide for countering piracy due to incidents of crew abduction for ransom, which had happened after the publication of the 2016 version.
The Version 2 of the Regional Guide includes updated information such as the modus operandi for different types of perpetrators and contact details of relevant agencies. It's main purpose, however, is to assist both the owner and the crew operating in Asia to apply the appropriate measures to avoid, deter or delay attacks and unauthorised boardings.
The guide complements the information provided by the IMO, particularly the reporting of incidents to the nearest coastal state and flag state, as stipulated in MSC Circular 1333/Rev.1 and Circular 1334 and should be read with the latest information and updates from the ReCAAP ISC, Information Fusion Centre (IFC) and the International Maritime Bureau (IMB).
