PRS updates additional rule requirements for the environmental tests on marine equipment
The Polish Register of Shipping (PRS) has published the updated version of the additional rule requirements for the environmental tests on marine equipment.
This publication (11/P) was published on 29 May 2023 and will become effective from 1 July 2023.
It replaces Publication No. 11/P – Environmental Tests on Marine Equipment, July 2021.
This publication provides details regarding the scope and conditions for conducting type tests on various electrical, electronic, and programmable equipment.
These tests are primarily focused on control, monitoring, and alarm systems, as well as protection systems to be used on ships.
However, they can also be applied to other equipment subject to PRS survey to determine its suitability for shipboard use.
If the products are intended for use in more severe conditions than specified in the Rules (Part VIII - Electrical Installations and Control Systems, sub-chapter 2.1), the scope and parameters of the tests will be given special consideration by PRS.
Type tests for navigational and radio communication equipment must adhere to the requirements outlined in Publication IEC 60945.
Additionally, tests for electromagnetic compatibility of electrical and electronic equipment, such as computer equipment, which may cause disturbances to the navigational and radio communication equipment on the navigating bridge, should be conducted as per the respective Publication IEC requirements.
Equipment to be installed on ships contracted for construction on or after January 1, 2022, must comply with the January 2020 edition of this publication.
