Panama Maritime Authority has issued an MMC outlining the requirements for crew boats
The Panama Maritime Authority has issued the Merchant Marine Circular MMC-167, outlining the requirements for crew boats operating under the Panamanian flag.
It states that vessels carrying more than 12 passengers are categorized as passenger ships and must comply with passenger vessel regulations.
However, crew boats primarily transporting offshore crew and marine service providers are exempt from certain SOLAS requirements for passenger ships due to their size and traditional construction standards.
The circular details certification, safety, and equipment requirements for crew boats, as well as exceptions for vessels under 100 GRT.
It also provides contact information for inquiries.
This circular aims to ensure the safety and compliance of crew boats under the Panamanian flag, emphasizing the specific regulations and considerations for this category of vessels.
This MMC was published on 1 November 2023.
