The Panama Maritime Authority has issued merchant marine circular MMC-372, regarding the early implementation of SOLAS regulations II-2/1 and II-2/10.
This Circular guides Panamanian-flagged ships in early adoption of SOLAS amendments to Regulation 10 of Chapter II-2, effective from November 25, 2016, emphasizing MSC.1/Circ.1566.
It applies to all Panama-registered ships under SOLAS Chapter II-2, including those built before the entry into force date.
MSC adopted SOLAS II-2/10 amendments on November 25, 2016, set to enter force on January 1, 2020, with encouragement for early implementation through MSC.1/Circ.1566.
Amendment Details
- New paragraph 2.9 applies MSC.409(97) to ships built before January 1, 2020, including those built before July 1, 2012.
- Amendment to SOLAS II-2/10 clarifies exemption for approved foam-type extinguishers in certain cases.
Administration accepts voluntary early implementation of amended SOLAS regulations II-2/Regulation 1 and II-2/Regulation 10 based on MSC.1/Circ.1566.
This MMC was issued on 1 November 2023.
