The Panama Maritime Authority has issued a merchant marine circular about the Code for Recognized Organizations (RO Code).
This Circular informs about the Code for Recognized Organizations (RO Code), which consolidates requirements for recognized organizations into a single mandatory instrument endorsed by the IMO. It aims to achieve harmonized global implementation of IMO standards.
All organizations recognized by the Republic of Panama must comply with the RO Code requirements for statutory certification and services. The Code applies to all Recognized Organizations, regardless of size or type, and allows for the limited scope of recognition.
The Panama Maritime Administration emphasizes transparency requirements of the RO Code, including public availability of ship certification information on RO websites. Additional information must be provided to the Administration upon request.
This document was published on 1 June 2023. It supersedes:
- The MMC-272 - List of Exclusive Surveyors
- The MMC-309 - Procedures for Transfer of Statutory and Class Certification
