Panama Canal adjusts lock slot allocation based on Gatun Lake levels

The Panama Canal Authority issued an advisory to shipping informing on increase in the number of booking slots and increase in the maximum allowable draft.

The advisory was published on 15 April 2024.

The Panama Canal Authority is adjusting slot distribution in the Panamax and Neopanamax locks based on the current and projected levels of Gatun Lake. Beginning May 16, 2024, there will be more booking slots available in the Panamax locks, and starting June 1, 2024, an additional slot will open in the Neopanamax locks. This extra Neopanamax slot will be allocated at the beginning of the 2nd Period competition on May 18, 2024.
