Overview of DNV's New Documents: April 2024 Updates

In April 2024, the Classification Society DNV released five new documents. Here's an overview:

Service Specification for Pressure Equipment:

DNV introduced a new Service Specification titled "Pressure equipment - EU notified body and UK approved body accredited services." This document details DNV's certified accreditation program for pressure equipment.

New Standards:

Hybrid Thermoplastic Composite Flexible Pipe:

This standard emerged from two collaborative industry projects. The first project established guidelines for hybrid thermoplastic composite pipes, with contributions from Baker Hughes, NOV, and TechnipFMC. The second project focused on developing standards for flexible pipes with composite layers, involving Baker Hughes, Equinor, Evonik, NLR, NOV, Petrobras, TechnipFMC, and Victrex.

Electrolyser Systems:

Developed based on insights from the Certification of Hydrogen Production Systems by Electrolysis joint industry project (JIP). Various companies, such as Asahi Kasei Corporation, BP Exploration Operating Company, Clean Power Hydrogen Group, among others, contributed. Societe General and Swiss Re also provided advisory support.

Amendments to Existing Standard:

DNV made updates to the "Rotor Blades for Wind Turbines" standard in April 2024. These updates streamlined formatting, clarified objectives, expanded design load considerations, and enhanced testing and evaluation processes to boost blade reliability and performance.

Recommended Practice Amendment:

DNV also amended its Recommended Practice document titled "Redundant Dynamic Positioning Systems with Closed Bus-Ties" in April 2024. These updates streamlined DP FMEA tests, introduced new vessel qualifiers, specified battery system arrangements, updated testing guidance, and included DP philosophy document guidance.
