OCIMF: Best practices for EEXI compliance

The Oil Companies International Marine Forum (OCIMF) issued an information paper regarding compliance with the EEXI regulation.

This paper was published on 24 July 2024.

This paper provides best practice guidance for managing risks associated with implementing and operating Overridable Power Limitation (OPL) on existing ships, a cost-effective method to meet the International Maritime Organization’s (IMO) Energy Efficiency Existing Ship Index (EEXI) regulation.

To support global efforts against climate change, the IMO's greenhouse gas reduction targets include short-term technical-efficiency measures for existing ships, such as EEXI. When ships do not meet EEXI standards, shipowners may consider applying OPL to limit the maximum continuous rating output of the propulsion system.

The paper discusses Engine Power Limitation and Shaft Power Limitation as types of OPL.
