Notice on MARPOL Annex VI and BWM Convention ratification for Bermuda registered ships
The Bermuda Shipping and Maritime Authority has published BMIN 2024-01 regarding the MARPOL Annex VI & BWM Convention ratification.
This Notice was issued on 16th May 2024.
- The purpose of this notice is to inform Ship Owners, Managers, and Masters of Bermuda registered ships that MARPOL Annex VI and the Ballast Water Management Convention have been ratified and now apply to Bermuda registered ships.
- MARPOL Annex VI means Annex VI to the International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships, 1973 (MARPOL), as modified by the Protocol of 1978 relating thereto, and as modified by the Protocol of 1997, as amended by the IMO. The Ballast Water Management Convention means the International Convention for the Control and Management of Ships’ Ballast Water and Sediments 2004, BWM Convention.
- The conduct of surveys as required by MARPOL Annex VI and the Ballast Water Management Convention on Bermuda registered ships is fully delegated to the six Recognised Organisations (LR, DNV, BV, ABS, Class NK & RINA).
- Currently, an IAPP Statement of Compliance and an International Ballast Water Management Statement of Compliance are issued by our Recognised Organisations upon satisfactory completion of surveys on Bermuda registered ships as required by the MARPOL Annex VI and BWM Conventions.
- Going forward, Bermuda Recognised Organisations are requested to issue IAPP Certificates and International Ballast Water Management Certificates instead of Statements of Compliance upon completion of MARPOL Annex VI and BWM surveys.
