UK Maritime and Coastguard Agency has extended the validity of Marine Information Notice (MIN) 524 for the certification of small vessel engineer officers.
This notice should be read with MSN 1857, MSN 1859, and MSN 1865. The MIN 524 expires on December 31st, 2022.
This MIN explains the process of certification and the necessary requirements.
In chapter 2, the Small Vessel Certificate structure is detailed.
In chapter 3, the requirements to obtain a Certificate of Competency are clarified.
Chapter 4 discloses the amount of qualifying seagoing service and the requirements.
Chapter 5 details ancillary and safety courses.
Medical fitness requirements are explained in chapter 6.
Chapter 7 discloses approved education and training programmes.
Chapter 8 clarifies the requirements that need to be met in order to obtain the Notice of Eligibility (NOE).
Chapter 9 clarifies on which terms the Certificate of Competency will be issued.
Chapter 10 details the conversion of the existing Certificate of Competency (CoC) to Small Vessel (SV) CoC.
Additionally, annexes are included in this notice containing a summary of the progression through the Small Vessel route as well as the documents that need to be submitted for the certification.
