MARAD: new global subscription process for U.S. Maritime Alerts and Advisories

The U.S. Maritime Administration has issued an advisory titled Global-New U.S. Maritime Alert and Advisory Subscription Process.

The advisory was published on 22 September 2023 and expires on 20 March 2024.

The previous system, in place since 2016, required entities to register via email, but it lacked identifying information beyond email addresses.

To better identify subscribed entities, identify additional entities who may benefit from receiving U.S. Maritime Alerts and Advisories, and to update subscriptions as personnel turn over, a new self-registration system is being launched by the U.S. government participants in this system.

Additional info on the U.S. Maritime Alerts and Advisories system is available at https://www.maritime.dot.gov/msci.

This advisory informs both current and prospective subscribers that the existing method of subscribing to U.S. Maritime Alerts and Advisories via email will be replaced by a more user-friendly GovDelivery self-subscription system.

To continue receiving these alerts, including those currently registered under the old system, individuals must self-register before November 30, 2023, using the instructions at https://www.maritime.dot.gov/msci/us-maritime-alerts-and-advisories-subscriptions.

This new self-registration process involves answering six basic questions on a single page.

Starting from November 30, 2023, only subscribers registered through this new system will receive newly issued U.S. Maritime Alerts and Advisories via email.

It's important to add the email address marad@info.dot.gov to your approved senders list (whitelist) to ensure these alerts are not blocked.

The subscription website for U.S. Maritime Alerts and Advisories is https://www.maritime.dot.gov/msci/us-maritime-alerts-and-advisories-subscriptions.
