Marine Department Malaysia has issued a shipping notice regarding the maintenance and inspection of fire protection systems and appliances.
The notice was published on 22 March 2023.
It is addressed to shipowners, ship agents, Masters, seafarers, port operators, Recognized Organization, and the maritime industry.
The purpose of this document is to inform the shipping Community of MSC.1/Circular.1432 - Revised Guidelines for the Maintenance and Inspection of Fire Protection Systems and appliances.
This notice applies to all Malaysian-flagged ships when carrying out maintenance, testing, and inspections in compliance with SOLAS regulation II-2/14.2.2.1.
Types of fixed fire-extinguishing systems required by SOLAS Ch. II-2, Regulation 10 are listed in this document.
Also, the Administration has accepted the "Fixed Aerosol Fire Extinguishing Systems" equivalent to fixed gas fire extinguishing systems as referred to in SOLAS 74 for machinery spaces in accordance with MSC.1/Circ.1270.
