Korean Register has amended its Classification Technical Rules to reflect IACS Resolutions, IMO Circulars and Requests for revision of Classification Technical Rules. The affected documents include Rules for the Classification of Steel Ships, the corresponding Guidance and the Rules for the Classification of Mobile Offshore Drilling Units.
Rules for the Classification of Steel Ships
Part 2, Part 5 and Part 7 of the Rules were amended to reflect changes to IACS requirements and interpretations that are about to enter into force at the beginning of January 2023, including IACS UR W14(Rev.3 Sep 2021), IACS UR M60 (Rev.1 Nov 2021), IACS UR M73 (Rev.1 Mar 2022) and IACS UR M61 (Rev.1 Feb 2022).
The amendments enter into force 01 January 2023, which is the date of application for certification of materials and welding or the contract date for ship construction.
Guidance for the Classification of Steel Ships
Part 2 and Part 7 of the Guidance relating to the Classification of Steel Ships were amended to mirror the new IACS UI GC 32 (Rev.1 Feb 2022) which will enter into force on January 1st 2023, as well as the new IMO Circular MSC/Circ.1651 on Unified Interpretations of the IGC Code.
Effective date for the amendments is 01 January 2023 which is the date of application for certification of material and welding, and applies to ships contracted for construction on or after 01 January 2023.
Rules for the Classification of Mobile Offshore Drilling Units
Chapter 10 of the Rules for the Classification of Mobile Offshore Drilling Units has been revised to reflect the requirements for fire extinction of IACS UR D11.
The amendments become effective on January 1st 2023, which is the date on which contracts for construction are signed.
