Key updates in Bureau Veritas NR600 for cargo ships under 65 m and non-cargo ships under 90m
Classification Society Bureau Veritas (BV) has released a new edition of its Hull structure and arrangement for the classification of cargo ships less than 65 m and non-cargo ships less than 90 m (NR600).
The main changes in the NR600 October 2024 edition are as follows:
Chapter 3 – Design Loads
- Flooding loads: The rules for flooding loads have been updated in Section 4, [6.1.1].
Chapter 5 – Other Structures
- Windows scantling: A new coefficient has been introduced to account for boundary conditions when calculating window scantlings (Sec 1, [7.3.4]).
- Anchoring equipment: Requirements for anchoring equipment have been updated to align with IACS UR A1, Rev 8 (Sec 4, [3.3]).
Chapter 6 – Additional Requirements for Service Notation
- Ro-ro cargo ships and pure car/truck carriers: Updated classification notation names for these ships (Sec 1, [2]).
- Cement carrier: A new classification notation has been introduced for cement carriers (Sec 1, [17]).
