Isle of Man: Updated tonnage and measurement requirements for ships under 24m

The Isle of Man Ship Registry issued an updated Registry Advice Notice (RAN 03, Rev.4) on 02 October 2024, detailing the tonnage measurement and certification requirements for ships under 24 meters in length. Ships (excluding those on the small ships register and fishing vessels) must be surveyed and issued a 'Certificate of Survey (Tonnage Measurement)' according to the Merchant Shipping (Tonnage) Regulations 1998.

After the initial survey, no further surveys are required unless significant changes, such as structural alterations or changes in capacity or passenger limits, affect the tonnage. In such cases, the certificate must be returned, and the ship re-measured. Changes in a vessel's name or port of registry also require the certificate to be updated, though these do not impact tonnage.
