The Directorate General of Shipping, India has issued a circular regarding the cancellation of the INDOS number.
The circular was published on 20 February 2023.
'Indian National Database of Seafarers' (INDOS) number is a unique number issued to a seafarer and this number is required by every aspiring seafarer desiring to undergo any pre-sea maritime courses.
There are 13 pre-sea maritime courses available in the INDOS module:
The candidate has to select one of the DSG approved pre-sea courses he or she wishes to undertake.
Upon successful registration, the candidate will receive a system-generated "Reference number" for future correspondence.
The "Reference number" will be valid for three months and the candidate should seek admission to Maritime Training Institute (MTI) within these three months. If the candidate fails to seek access to the MTI within three months the candidate can register again and a new reference number will be granted.
The candidate must be physically present with all original documents (valid passport and tenth class pass mark sheet unless exempted by DSG circular) at the Maritime Training Institute during verification for generating the INDOS number.
MTI will upload the scanned documents to the DSG e-governance system and make an online payment of the INDOS fee against the application number, which will then generate the candidate's INDOS number.
The candidate is required to undergo the selected course within the period of three months of the allotment of the INDOS number with the same MTI which has generated his or her INDOS number.
If the candidate does not turn up to undergo the same course with the same MTI within a period of 3 months from the date of issue of the INDOS no., the MTI is liable to notify Maritime Training Trust (INDOS Cell) / E-Govemance Cell of the DGS requesting cancellation of the INDOS number issued to a such candidate and the INDOS fees paid for a such candidate shall be forfeited.
