The Directorate General of Shipping, India, under the Ministry of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways (MoPSW), Government of India, has introduced an Internship Scheme aimed at encouraging Indian citizens to participate in the maritime sector. The objective of this internship is to provide young graduates, post-graduates, and professionals with practical experience in the maritime industry, building their professional skills and knowledge.
The internship will expose participants to various fields within the maritime industry, including maritime law, marine science, environmental science, marine engineering, and related disciplines. The scheme aims to provide an opportunity to work closely with the Directorate General of Shipping and gain hands-on experience in areas such as training, research, and referencing work.
Key Highlights of the Internship Scheme:
- Eligibility:
This internship program is open to Indian citizens who hold a Bachelor’s degree or higher in relevant fields such as law (including maritime law and public international law), naval architecture, environmental science, marine engineering, marine sciences, nautical science, maritime management, or any other related discipline. - Internship Duration:
The internship will last for a period ranging from three (03) to six (06) months, allowing sufficient time for the interns to gain valuable industry experience. - Number of Interns:
Up to six (06) interns may be selected and engaged each year, providing a limited but highly focused opportunity to work with the Directorate General of Shipping. - Application Process:
Interested candidates are required to submit their applications using the prescribed Application Proforma (Annexure-I), which is available on the Directorate General of Shipping's official website. The completed application, along with all required supporting documents, should be sent via email to the designated email address listed on the website. - Selection Process:
The selection of interns will be based on an evaluation of their qualifications, experience, and overall suitability for the internship. Candidates who are selected will be notified either via email or phone. - Stipend:
Interns will be given an honorarium of INR 10,000 per month, subject to satisfactory performance during their internship. This stipend aims to support the interns while they gain experience and contribute to the Directorate’s work. - Certificate:
A certificate will be awarded to the interns upon the successful and satisfactory completion of the internship. This certificate will serve as recognition of their valuable contribution to the Directorate and the maritime sector.
