The Directorate General of Shipping, India on 2 May 2023 published a merchant shipping notice on the requirements for ships carrying liquefied hydrogen.
Guidelines for building hydrogen carriers, based on interim recommendations by the IMO, have been attached to this notice.
The interim requirements aim to facilitate tripartite agreements for pilot ships.
Compliance with the IGC Code and the appended annex is necessary for Indian flag ships carrying liquefied hydrogen.
Ship owners should contact relevant authorities for the necessary agreements.
