India established the Crisis Management and Reaction Group

The Directorate General of Shipping, India has published a circular informing about the constitution of the Crisis Management and Reaction Group.

India, a leading supplier of seafarers globally, must prioritize the safety and well-being of its seafarers on ships under foreign or Indian flags worldwide.
To address incidents like casualties, loss of lives, missing seafarers, vessel abandonment, and seafarer arrests abroad, the Directorate is establishing a Crisis Management and Reaction group.

This group's role is to leverage collective expertise and commit full efforts to handle such incidents promptly and effectively.

Group members are authorized to engage with relevant stakeholders, organizations, institutions, RPSL agencies, or any pertinent parties, utilizing official channels to facilitate case-specific management, including gathering comments and reports as per regulations.

Additionally, the group will seek support from offices and domain experts to formulate a rule-based response, framework, and resolution strategy tailored to each specific case.

Regular meetings will be conducted to monitor the resolution progress of these incidents.

This circular was published on 11 August 2023.
