International Maritime Organization (IMO) has announced that the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste has accessed the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) and the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW).
SOLAS
In accordance with article IX of the Convention, accession by the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste was effected by the deposit of an instrument on 12th of October 2022. The Convention will enter into force for Timor-Leste on 12th of January 2023, in accordance with article X(b).
There are, at present, 168 Contracting States to the Convention, representing approximately 98.91% of the gross tonnage of the world's merchant shipping.
STCW
In accordance with article XIII(2), accession by the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste was effected by the deposit of an instrument on 12th of October 2022. The Convention will enter into force for Timor-Leste on 12th of January 2023, in accordance with article XIV(4).
There are, at present, 167 Contracting States to the Convention, representing approximately 98.91% of the gross tonnage of the world's merchant shipping.
