IMO issues amendments to Guidelines for Ship Fuel Oil Consumption Data and Carbon Intensity Verification

The International Maritime Organization has issued resolution MEPC.389(81) with the amendments to the 2022 Guidelines for Administration Verification of Ship Fuel Oil Consumption Data and Operational Carbon Intensity.

At its eighty-first session, the MEPC considered proposed amendments to these guidelines, leading to the adoption of Resolution MEPC.389(81).

The amendments outlined in the resolution include specific changes to the documentation requirements, such as the replacement of Paragraph 4.1.5 concerning documents containing information on fuel oil consumption, distance traveled, and other relevant data during the reporting period.

Additionally, amendments are made to the table in Appendix 2, which provides a sample of collected data summaries. Changes include the format for recording fuel consumption, cargo carried, and other relevant information, ensuring clarity and consistency in reporting.

Furthermore, the resolution requests parties to MARPOL Annex VI and other Member Governments to inform relevant stakeholders, including masters, seafarers, shipowners, ship operators, and any other interested parties, about the adopted amendments.
