The International Maritime Organization issued resolution MSC.556(108) amending the International Maritime Dangerous Goods (IMDG) Code, making changes that were considered at the 108th session of the Maritime Safety Committee (MSC).
Key Points
Adoption of Amendments:
- The MSC adopts amendments to the IMDG Code, with the text of the amendments provided in the annex of the resolution.
Acceptance and Entry into Force:
- The amendments will be accepted on 1 July 2025, unless objections are received from either more than one-third of the Contracting Governments or those representing at least 50% of the world's merchant fleet gross tonnage.
- Upon acceptance, the amendments will enter into force on 1 January 2026.
- Contracting Governments may apply these amendments voluntarily starting from 1 January 2025.
Communication and Documentation:
- The Secretary-General is requested to transmit certified copies of the resolution and the amendments to all Contracting Governments.
- The Secretary-General is also requested to send copies to Members of the Organization that are not Contracting Governments.

- Appendix 1: Contains parts 1, 2, 4, 5, 6, and 7 of the IMDG Code.
- Appendix 2: Contains part 3, appendices, and the index of the IMDG Code.
