The International Association of Classification Societies (IACS) has published the revised Mandatory Ship Type and Enhanced Survey Programme (ESP) Notations, effective 1 July 2024.
The enhanced survey regime outlined in Unified Requirements Z10.1, Z10.2, Z10.3, Z10.4, and Z10.5 is applicable to various ship types categorized as oil tankers, chemical tankers, and bulk carriers within the definitions provided in those Unified Requirements.
To clearly indicate which ships are subject to the enhanced survey program, the class notation assigned to all such ships built and/or maintained according to a Member Society's Rules and Regulations should include the following notations.
The survey requirements are as follows:
- For oil tankers that are not double-hull oil tankers, refer to UR Z10.1.
- For single-side skin bulk carriers*, refer to UR Z10.2.
- For chemical tankers, refer to UR Z10.3.
- For double-hull oil tankers, refer to UR Z10.4.
- For double-sided skin bulk carriers*, refer to UR Z10.5.
- For ore carriers, the requirements depend on the structural configuration and may involve UR Z10.2 and/or Z10.5.
- For combination carriers (ore/oil and oil/bulk/ore), the requirements depend on the structural configuration and may involve UR Z10.2 and/or Z10.5, as well as Z10.1 and/or Z10.4.
- For self-unloaders, the requirements depend on the structural configuration and may involve UR Z10.2 and/or Z10.5.
For detailed applicability, refer to the respective Unified Requirements mentioned above.
*For bulk carriers with hybrid cargo hold arrangements, where some cargo holds have a single side skin and others have a double side skin, the requirements of UR Z10.2 apply to cargo holds with a single side skin, and UR Z10.5 applies to cargo holds with a double side skin.
This Unified Requirements document (UR Z11 Rev6 CLN) was published on 1 May 2023.
