IACS recently issued four revised documents

The International Association of Classification Societies (IACS) recently published four revised documents: two Unified Requirements, one Unified Interpretation, and one Recommendation.

Storage and Use of SCR Reductants

This Unified Requirements document, UR M77 Rev4 CLN, was published on February 1st, 2023, and will enter into force on January 1st, 2024.

These revised Unified Requirements are to be uniformly implemented by IACS Societies for the storage tank of SCR reductants:

  • when an application for installation, i.e. submission date of plans, is made on or after January 1st, 2024; or
  • which is installed in ships contracted for construction on or after January 1st, 2024.

Rudders, Sole Pieces and Rudder Horns

UR S10 Rev7 CLN was published on February 1st, 2023, and becomes effective from July 1st, 2024.

This document applies to ordinary profile rudders, and to some enhanced profile rudders with special arrangements for increasing the rudder force.

It also applies to rudders made of steel for ships with L ≥ 24m.

Fire Pump Isolation Requirements

Unified Interpretations document UI SC121 Rev2 CLN, published on January 1st, 2023.

Revision of this Unified Interpretation must be implemented by IACS Societies on ships constructed on or after July 1st, 2023.

Type Approval Procedure for Cable Trays/Protective Casings Made of Plastics Materials

The document Rec 73 Rev2 CLN was published on January 1st, 2023.

Cable tray/protective casings should be designed to the following ambient temperatures:

  • - 25 °C to 90 °C for outdoor use
  • + 5 °C to 90 °C for indoor use

Also, cable tray/protective casings should be assigned a Safe Working Load.
