IACS issues latest Blue Book edition
The International Association of Classification Societies (IACS) has issued the latest version of the Blue Book package, further enhancing its technical support for the shipping industry through investments in technology, innovation, and research and development at both the classification and statutory levels.
The IACS Blue Book is a comprehensive electronic library of technical resolutions adopted by IACS as part of its ongoing technical work. It serves as the Association's primary reference, containing historical data and all previous revisions of IACS publications. Published and updated annually, the Blue Book demonstrates how IACS fulfills its mission to benefit international shipping. It includes:
- Unified Requirements: Standards adopted into IACS Members’ Rules.
- Unified Interpretations: Consistent interpretations of IMO convention requirements applied uniformly by IACS Members on behalf of authorizing flag Administrations, unless otherwise instructed.
- Procedural Requirements: Guidelines for collaboration and practices among IACS Members.
- Recommendations: Resolutions offering guidance on topics outside Class but beneficial to the marine industry.
- Quality Documents: Covering the QSCS (Quality System Certification Scheme), Quality Management System Requirements, Audit Requirements, ACB (Accredited Certification Bodies) standards, and related procedures.
- IACS Charter and Procedures: Defining the Association’s purpose, objectives, and working framework.
These resources are essential for ship designers, consultants, shipbuilders, classification societies, shipowners, insurers, flag States, port authorities, and others in the maritime sector. They are available for free download at https://iacs.org.uk/resolutions/blue-book.
