IACS has revised the recommendations for chain anchoring, mooring, and towing equipment

The International Association of Classification Societies (IACS) has revised the recommendations for chain anchoring, mooring, and towing equipment.

Equipment for Anchoring

The IACS provides guidelines concerning the design, construction, and testing of chain anchoring equipment utilized on ships.

This encompasses various components such as anchor chains, anchors, chain stoppers, and related items.

The primary objective of these recommendations is to guarantee the safety, reliability, and effectiveness of the anchoring system employed on ships.

Properly designed and well-maintained anchoring equipment is essential for secure mooring and the ability to withstand the forces encountered during adverse weather conditions.

Equipment for Mooring

IACS offers recommendations for mooring equipment, which is used to secure ships to docks, jetties, or other fixed structures.

Mooring equipment comprises ropes, wires, bollards, winches, fairleads, and other fittings.

The guidelines are intended to ensure that the mooring equipment possesses adequate strength and durability to withstand the loads imposed during docking, undocking operations, and while the ship is berthed.

Equipment for Towing

The IACS provides recommendations for towing arrangements and equipment used on ships.

This includes provisions for towing winches, towing lines, bitts, and other relevant components that come into play when a ship requires assistance from tugboats or during towing operations involving other vessels.

The proper design of towing equipment is crucial for ensuring safe and efficient towing maneuvers.
