The Marine Department of the Government of Hong Kong has published the Merchant Shipping (Safety) (Protective Clothing and Equipment) Regulations.
These regulations will apply to Hong Kong ships wherever they may be, subject to subregulations (2) and (4).
Additionally, regulations 2, 3, and 10 will apply to other ships when they are in the waters of Hong Kong.
Offshore installations, while on or within 500 meters of their working stations, will be exempt from these regulations.
The term "offshore installation" refers to an installation that is maintained in the water, on the foreshore, or on other land occasionally covered with water. It is not connected to dry land by a permanent structure that provides access at all times and for all purposes.
The Director has the authority to grant exemptions from any or all of these regulations, either for specific classes of cases or individual cases, under the conditions specified in the exemption.
Furthermore, the Director can modify or cancel any such exemption, provided reasonable notice is given.
