The United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) has published the European Agreement concerning the International Carriage of Dangerous Goods by Inland Waterways (Volume II).
This Agreement is applicable to the transportation of hazardous materials via vessels on inland waterways.
The provisions of this Agreement do not extend to the transport of hazardous materials by seafaring vessels on maritime waterways that are connected to inland waterways.
This Agreement does not cover the carriage of dangerous materials by warships, auxiliary warships, or other vessels owned or operated by a State, as long as these vessels are exclusively used for governmental and non-commercial purposes.
Nevertheless, each Contracting Party is required to take appropriate measures, without hindering the operations or operational capacity of such vessels, to ensure their compliance with this Agreement whenever feasible in practice.
This document (ECE/TRANS/325 (Vol. II)) was published on 17 July 2023 and is applicable from 1 January 2023.
