Classification Society DNV has released the updated SOLAS Interpretations.
Objective
The purpose of this publication is to present the DNV's interpretations of the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS), 1974, as amended.
These interpretations are provided for matters that may be subject to the flag administration's discretion or are expressed in ambiguous terms.
The interpretations provided in this publication clarify requirements in situations where there are no flag requirements, IACS unified interpretations (UIs), or other existing interpretations.
This publication focuses only on specific topics and should not be considered as the DNV's comprehensive interpretations of SOLAS.
Application
When acting on behalf of a flag administration, the DNV adheres to international statutory instruments, IACS Unified Interpretations, and DNV statutory interpretations.
Additionally, the DNV generally follows guidance issued by IMO through Circulars, unless otherwise instructed by the flag administration.
This document (DNV-SI-0364), was published on 1 July 2023 and will enter into force on 1 January 2024.
It supersedes the July 2022 edition.
