The Nippon Kaiji Kyokai (ClassNK) has amended the Guidance for the Approval and Type Approval of Materials and Equipment for Marine Use.
These guidelines apply to products that require advance approval or type approval according to the ClassNK's rules.
They primarily target manufacturing plants and specify procedures for confirming manufacturing and quality control processes.
Manufacturers may be exempted from certain approval tests if their manufacturing process and test results have been approved by another organization and they possess relevant manufacturing records.
ClassNK may also approve alternative survey methods instead of traditional surveys with a Surveyor present.
The purpose of these guidelines is to establish ClassNK's approval and type approval procedures for marine materials and equipment from manufacturing plants.
They cover examinations for construction, materials, scantlings, and workmanship of hulls, equipment, and machinery, excluding hull outfitting and machinery assembly conducted at shipyards or manufacturer's shops.
