CCS Rule Change Notice: Updates to the Rules for Classification of Sea-Going Steel Ships

China Classification Society (CCS) has issued Rule Change Notice No. 3 (RCN No.3) for Rules for Classification of Sea-Going Steel Ships, which took effect on 9 July 2024.

This notice introduces significant updates specifically aimed at ammonia-fuel-powered ships and ammonia fuel carriers.

One of the key changes is the addition of Appendix 1F to Chapter 3. This new appendix provides comprehensive details on the certification requirements for both ammonia transport and ammonia fuel specialized products. It is designed to address the unique needs and safety considerations associated with using ammonia as a marine fuel.

Additionally, RCN No.3 revises and harmonizes various related paragraphs within the existing rules to ensure they are in line with these new provisions. This harmonization helps maintain consistency and clarity across the CCS's classification standards.

These updates are part of a broader revision affecting the CCS Rules for Classification of Sea-Going Steel Ships, which were published in June 2024 and officially came into effect on 1 July 2024.
