CCS publishes 2024 Rules for Materials and Welding
China Classification Society (CCS) has released updated Rules for Materials and Welding, set to take effect from July 1, 2024.
These rules incorporate the 2024 Amendments and the 2023 Rule Change Notice No.1.
Key changes include updates in various categories:
In Part One, focusing on Metallic Materials, amendments cover Material Tests such as CTOD Tests, General Provisions and High Strength Steels for Steel Products, General Provisions for Steel Pipes and Tubes, specific applications in Steel Forgings (including Hull Structures, Shafting, Machinery, Crankshafts, Gearing, and Stainless Steel), Steel Castings (with updates in General Provisions, Hull Structures, and Machinery Construction), and Aluminium Alloys (with updates in General Provisions and Friction Stir Welded Plates). Equipment standards are also updated for Anchors and Marine and Offshore Chains.
Part Two, Non-Metallic Materials, introduces revisions for Plastics Materials (focused on Raw Materials), Fiber-Reinforced Plastics (including updates to Laminating Procedures), Plastic Pipes and Fittings (with updates in General Provisions and Identification), and Fiber Ropes (for Marine and Offshore applications).
Part Three, Welding standards, covers revisions in Welding Consumables (including General Provisions, Mechanical Properties, Electrodes, Wires, and Stainless Steel), Welding Procedures (specifically Approval Tests for Butt Welds), and Welding of Structures (including standards for Hull Structures, Offshore Structures, Machinery Components, Non-Destructive Inspection, and Weld Repairs).
Additionally, specific changes highlighted in the Rule Change Notice affect Chapter 2 (Material Tests, including a section on Pitting Corrosion Test for Duplex Stainless Steels) and Chapter 3 (Steel Plates, Flat Bars, and Sections, with updates in Austenitic and Duplex Stainless Steels) within Part One, Metallic Materials.
