CCS issues Rule Change Notice for Sea-Going Steel Ships
China Classification Society (CCS) has issued Rule Change Notice No. 1 for the Rules for Classification of Sea-Going Steel Ships, effective January 1, 2025. This notice introduces updates across multiple parts of the rules, covering critical areas of ship classification and safety standards.
Key Changes by Section:
Part Two: Hull
- Chapter 2: Updates to hull structures, including Appendix 5, which addresses the buckling strength assessment of ship structural elements.
- Chapter 3: Changes to equipment and outfits, with Appendix 1 providing guidelines for calculating bending moment and shear force distribution.
Part Three: Machinery Installations
- Chapter 1: General provisions for machinery systems.
- Chapter 2: Updates to pumping and piping systems, focusing on pipe connections, heat treatment, and non-destructive testing. Section 7 includes revised testing protocols, while Appendix 3 introduces the type approval process for mechanical joints.
- Chapter 4: Requirements for machinery piping systems, including using crude oil or slops as fuel in tanker boilers.
- Chapter 9: Diesel engine standards, particularly safety measures for low-pressure gas fuel engines and starting arrangements.
- Chapter 11: Updates on shafting and propellers, focusing on shaft transmission units.
Part Four: Electrical Installations
- Appendix 2: Revised type approval procedures for plastic cable trays and protective casings.
Part Six: Fire Protection, Detection, and Extinction
- Chapter 3: Enhanced fire safety measures, including miscellaneous updates to Section 4.
Part Seven: Automation Systems
- Chapter 2: Basic requirements, with Section 8 addressing remotely controlled main propulsion machinery.
- Chapter 4: Automation of ships with "BRC" class notation, focusing on constantly attended machinery spaces.
Part Eight: Additional Requirements
- Chapter 2: Standards for livestock carriers, covering hull structure, stability, provision of livestock services, firefighting appliances, and electrical equipment.
- Chapter 38: Requirements for wind farm service vessels, including provisions for hull structures, subdivision and stability, systems and equipment, and surveys.
