CCS: Guidelines for semi-submerged propeller propulsion units

China Classification Society (CCS) has issued guidelines for the design, construction, inspection, and maintenance of semi-submerged propeller propulsion units.

These guidelines emphasize several key aspects:

  • Product Inspection: Inspections are required after drawing approval, with emphasis on type testing of electrical components. All parts must have Marine Product Certificates, and non-compliant parts require inspections per CCS rules.
  • Materials and Welding: Raw materials and major components must undergo material and non-destructive testing. Welding procedures need prior approval before manufacturing.
  • Testing and Inspections: Key tests include:Hydraulic and tightness tests at pressures exceeding design limits.Function tests for steering and control systems.Endurance tests for new models, running for 500 hours under specific conditions.
  • Installation and Sea Trials: Post-installation checks ensure compliance with approved designs, including functionality and tightness tests after launching.
  • Surveys: Regular inspections confirm the operational status of systems, focusing on corrosion and securing devices, with special surveys for critical components.
