BV issues rules for Data-centric Evaluation

Classification Society Bureau Veritas (BV) has published its rules for Data-centric Evaluation.

These rules were published on 1 April 2024.

The document outlines requirements and procedures for Data-centric Evaluation (DE) and the class notation DATA-CENTRIC. It introduces two digital solutions:

  1. DE Onboard Digital Solution (DE ODS): Collects data-centric evidence onboard.
  2. DE Shore Digital Solution (DE SDS): Handles data exchange, reporting, and analysis onshore.

Key highlights include the importance of data collection, cybersecurity measures, and reporting processes. DESS are approved evaluation service providers, and DE ODS and DE SDS require type approval. Test protocols guide testing, with Automatic and Semi-Automatic Test Completion methods used. DE results are categorized, and the user interface includes visual representations of evidence.

Emphasis is placed on collaboration, non-compliance follow-up plans, and record-keeping. The document also covers DE workflow, cybersecurity, and data sharing agreements. It introduces DE as evaluation using secure data acquisition, focusing on functional capability analysis.

The additional class notation DATA-CENTRIC requires ships to have DE ODS and DE SDS. Appendix 1 provides guidance for specific systems, while Appendix 2 offers implementation examples. Reporting processes are outlined in Appendix 3, including enhanced reporting based on data-centric evidence, data ownership, and event-based data access.
